The underlying theme in most of the research conducted within the last 10 years has been in comparative embryology with an emphasis in the extracellular matrix-degrading proteinases, in particular, the plasmin system, and to a lesser extent, the matrix metalloproteinases. Because of a potential link with the plasmin system, cystic ovarian disease in dairy cattle was also a research focus.
